A grand jury indicted them yesterday on 20 charges each, including three counts of murder and one count of concealing a death for the 15 April murder of AJ. They were also indicted with additional counts of battery stemming from the 4 March beating they videotaped, as well as several counts of reckless conduct, unlawful restraint and child endangerment stemming from a September 2018 incident.  20 September 2018 incident

We, the family that lovingly cared for Andrew (AJ) during the first 18 months of his life and were then allowed to be in his life for another 26 months until the parents abruptly prevented us from having any further contact with him, want everyone to know that AJ was loved by us with all our hearts.

While we had him in our lives, he had a happy, fun-loving life. This smart little boy loved having books read to him, doing puzzles, his Thomas the Train, playing with his fire trucks, bulldozers, cement mixer and Ninja Turtles. He was very curious and always wanted to learn about everything.

He was, and will always be, our loving and caring little boy. With his brave short life, AJ made the ultimate sacrifice to save his younger brother and unborn sibling. His life shall not be in vain. AJ will always be our little superhero.

We want to thank the Crystal Lake Police and surrounding Police Departments, the FBI, all other first responders, and our community at large. We appreciate all of the kindness, prayers, love, and compassion shown by all.

Joann Cunningham and Andrew Freund have given up custody of Aj’s younger brother Parker!

Prosecutors filed a petition seeking permanent measures to terminate Cunninghams and Freund’s parental rights.

DCFS Jassen Strokosch stated:  “If the parents are found unfit, their child could be moved to another home longterm or placed for adoption. This process could take several months.”  If you remember in the murderers first court appearance, the judge stated that these 2 are to have NO contact with anyone under the age of 17.

Parker was taken from their care the day AJ was reported missing and is in the care of Illinois department of children  and family services!  Illinois DCFS is under scrutiny for over looking the doctors report about AJ being hit with a belt by his mother.

Cunningham is also pregnant with another child and due in about 2 months.  I’m assuming that child will go immediately into DCSF’s care.

AJ’s murderers showed up in court today! Also there also were 12 people from the community to show support for AJ!

The mother is charged with five counts of murder, four counts of aggravated battery, two counts of aggravated domestic battery, and one count of failure to report a missing child or child death. The judge appointed her a public defender because she has not worked for the past 2 years.

The father who is charged with five counts of murder, two counts of aggravated battery, one count of aggravated domestic battery, two counts of concealing a homicide, and one count of failure to report a missing child or child death. He said he wanted more time to decide on getting his own attorney, or being assigned a public defender. The judge gave him until May 3 to make his decision.

The next preliminary hearing will be 10 May for these so called ‘parents’. More than likely to enter their plea in court. You can bet they will plea not guilty of murdering AJ, and waste the state’s money on a trial!

The mother is 7 months pregnant! I assume that child will go to another family member.

“AJ” Freund reported being hit with a belt, the officials told a legislative panel.

A caseworker last visited freund’s in December, but blamed bruising on AJ to the dog. The case was closed in January despite a note in his file that indicated a “doctor was concerned because Andrew said, ‘Maybe someone hit me with a belt. Maybe Mommy didn’t mean to hurt me.'”

Of course DCFS claims that piece of this case was missing!  The agents who worked on this case are on administrative duty and not working on family cases.

Rep. Sara Feigenholtz said the state of Illinois is doing a “lousy job” at recruiting foster parents to care for abused children removed from their biological homes. She blamed it in part on too great a focus on what otherwise is a laudable goal of reuniting biological families when possible. But social services for troubled families are lacking, she said.

On 18 December 2018 two officers responded to 94 Dole Ave., Crystal Lake Illinois reference a burglary. Upon arrival the officers observed the living conditions of the residence to not be up to acceptable standard of living with two young children living in the residence. The officers observed redacted and redacted in the residence where dog feces and urine were scattered about the residence. The officers observed several windows of the residence to be open or broken with outside air entering the residence. The officers observed the fireplace that is usually utilized for heating the residence to be in this disrepair.
The officers contacted Seacomm at 0847 hours and requested that Crystal Lake building and zoning to inspect the residence. Upon arrival they were denied entry into the residence. The officers proceeded to photograph the interior of the resident and email the photos to another officer to submit into evidence.

At zero 920 Joanne Cunningham of 94 Dole Ave., Crystal Lake Illinois was placed under arrest by the officers for driving while license suspended. The officers transported Joanne to Crystal Lake PD to be processed. The squad car was checked prior to and after transporting nothing was located.

On 18 December 2018 at approximately 0 830 and I have a surprise for typically identified subject redacted who was the suspect for a theft that transpired at redacted in Crystal Lake.

While patrolling eastbound on US Route 14 at the intersection of Keith Avenue, the officer witnessed a male wearing black pants and a black hooded sweatshirt crossing over and walking through the parking lot of Associated Bank. The officer proceeded to pull up and make contact with the male, who identified himself as redacted. Redacted stated that he had an argument with redacted earlier that morning and subsequently left the premises. Redacted then stated the argument was over redacted attempting to steal his medications.

Redacted further stated that redacted started shouting at him calling him a “piece of sh!t” at the time. Redacted advised he left the residence and was heading towards the grocery store to cash in some winning scratch off lottery tickets.

The officer requested permission to pat him down due to allegations of stealing her cell phone and medications. Redacted voluntarily empty his pockets and consented to a pat down. Redacted then proceeded to show the officer some of his medications all of which were prescribed to him and explicitly denied he stole any of redacted possessions. The pat down of redacted confirm he was not in possession of redacted cell phone.

Enclosing redacted advised he was intent on staying out of trouble and heading to redacted.

On 19 December and Illinois pedestrian stop data sheet and stop receipt was mailed to redacted the address on his drivers license.

And officer was assigned a check on the well-being of the children residing at 94 Dole Avenue. A concerned citizen had reported they believe the house had no power for weeks and the house appears to be in a dilapidated state.

Upon the officers arrival they could see the grass at the residence had been about 2 feet long and the paint was filling up the house. The windows also seem to be falling apart. They went to the front door which had their electric meter near it they could see the meter did not appear to be running. They knocked on the front door and met with Joann. The officer voiced their concerns to her and she admitted the power had been off for a while but could not tell them exactly how long. She stated she is currently looking for a new resident and has tried staying elsewhere when she can. The officers asked Joann where she was staying and she stated last Sunday she stayed at the best Western in Woodstock.

The officers asked if they could step inside to check the living conditions and she denied their request. One of the children was with her and appeared to be healthy and happy. The officer asked if they could see the other child to see if he was OK. She stated he was in bed. The office informed her if they could see the child to confirm he was good they could relay that to DCF as if they were called. She then went and got the second child. He also appeared to be healthy and happy. The officers asked if she knew when the power will be turned back on and she stated she did not know. The officers asked if Andrew was home and she told them he was at work. The officers informed Joann of their concerns and that they would be contacting DCFS. She stated she understood and that they were at her house a few months ago.

The officers returned to headquarters and the officer assisting contacted DCFS. He was informed by DCFS that they would not do a check for utility issues as a resident without power alone does not warrant a DCFS investigation.

The officer was supposed to be contacted by someone from DCFS to get clarification but as of 0945 hours on 20 September 2018 she had not heard back.

An officer was dispatched on 4 September 2018 to Dole and Hastings for a dog running around in the yards. When she arrives she walked around the area in the front and backyards with negative results. As she was in the backyard of 90 Dole she heard a lady talking from the backyard of 94 Dole and there was Joann with a brown boxer. Joanne stated that Lucy the boxer is her dog and she must’ve broke her leash, for it was still attached to the collar of Lucy. Since she had control of Lucy the officer left the scene.

On 5 September the officer heard a call come over the radio that the same dog was running loose. She headed to doll and saw Lucy in the front yard of 94 doll inside Joanne Cunningham doing some yard work on the side of the house. The officer walked up to the house Lucy was barking at her but more scared than aggressive and Lucy walked right up to Joanne. The others are going to Joanne why she was there again. Joanne stated that she knew Lucy was in the yard and that she believes that her two neighbors didn’t like her and that they were calling every chance they get.

Officer explained that they don’t have a leash law but at the same time she needs to be in control of Lucy which the officer believed she was. The officer explained to make sure she gets the leash that Lucy broke the day before fixed so that the neighbors aren’t calling on her because there are chances that animal control would need to get involved. She was very understanding and apologetic.

And officer was dispatched on 5 August 2018 in reference to with the prescription drugs. Upon arrival the officer met with redact and redact who were standing in the bike lane by the street. Both subjects appeared to be on some sort of narcotic medication. Read that advised an unknown subject took read that from a backpack that redact was carrying the night before. Redact advised he last remembered the prescription medication been in the backpack the night before while redact and he were walking around the neighborhood.

The officer met with redact and inquired about the medication. Redact advise she also had redact but only half the amount. Redact advise she did not remember what she did the night before. She advised that the last thing she remembered was walking around the neighborhood with redact. The next thing redact remembered was waking in bed. She advised she had no idea how she got there. Redact advised her backpack was located by a neighbor and with the assistance of another officer it was returned to her. Redact advised redact was still in the backpack but advised they were free. The officer inquired about the street value. She advised they go for approximately $10 per strip, approximately $900 if sold illegally. Redact had no idea what she did the night before and had no idea of the location of the missing medications. The officer concluded the interview with redact.

The officer met with redact again and provided him with a report number. His demeanor changed when he received their number. From previous calls for service with prescription medication the officer has learned that the victim needs the report number to have prescriptions renewed. In essence, redact could have sold the medication and is reporting it stolen. The officer question him about the false report but he denied it. The officer concluded the interview with redact.

Officers arrived at approximately 2:39 PM. The officer responded to 94 Dole Avenue reference I’m missing adult. Upon arrival the officer met with the complainant. Redact stated her friend and roommate is currently missing. Redact stated on 14 February redact learned that a friend of his had passed away. Redact advised redact became depressed and told her he was going to Chicago on the train. Redact stated the redact does not have a drivers license and he usually takes the train if he goes to Chicago. Redact stated redact frequency Chicago a lot however does not have any addresses.

Redact explain read that I was checked in with her and always has his cell phone on. Read that stated redact cell phone is currently turned off. The officer attempted to call the cell and confirm his cell phone was turned off. The officer was on able to ping the cell phone.

Redact stated she called every single hospital and detox center in Chicago prior to the officers arrival. Redact stated redact was not at any of those locations. The officer called the Cook County medical examiner and there were no males that matched his description there. There was also negative results at all local McHenry County Hospital and PADS shelters and redact is not in police custody.

The officer put together a flyer with his photograph and disseminated it to local and surrounding agencies including Chicago. It was entered into leads as a missing endangered adult by seecom. The officer attempted to make contact with redact and was unsuccessful, his phone was still turned off.

FOLLOW-UP
And 18 February officer made contact with redact to find out if she has heard from the roommate. Redact advised she received a phone call from redact on 19 February informing her that he was currently in Chicago. Redact then provided the officer with a security authorization number assigned to redact at the Chicago location which would allow the officer to speak with staff regarding redact current status.

The officer made contact with staff in Chicago. The officer confirmed that he was currently in their care.

The officer sent seecom an email requesting redact be removed from the leads program to no longer missing. The officer sent out a cancellation flyer to surround in law-enforcement agencies regarding redact.

This report is a continuation from the police report on 17 December 2017, written by a different officer.

Two officers assisted another office or in locating the suspect redacted, who is involved in a physical altercation at redacted over a set of keys.

The officers check the downtown area for redacted who had left the area on foot wearing a black in color tank top and bluejeans. It was noted she had silver in her hair. They checked the area including the downtown bars with negative results.

Redacted explain that she was taking care of redacted, the legal resident of the apartment, while he was in custody. She related redacted had requested to she take his mail and any other assistance he needed. She related when she went over there, a female who identified herself as a relative of redacted, had requested the keys to the apartment in the mailbox. Redacted inform the females she was not going to give the keys to her unless redacted had specifically told her to do so. The female relative of redacted proceeded to swipe the keys that were sitting on the table which then fell on the ground. According to redacted she lunged after the keys with the other female and they wrestled for the keys. Redacted related to never punched or hit the other female. Redacted stated when she got the keys she and redacted left the area.

The officer asked redacted to look at her hands and did not observe any redness around the neck off at that time.

Redacted added redacted had asked to use her residence as a gateway home for drug treatment upon being released from custody. It was noted that redacted needed a “stable” home. Redacted related she refused, which made redacted upset and he said he will have a family member try to get him out.

Redacted related she was there to assist redacted with the mail. She stated while there she began bleaching redacted hair. The family member of redacted arrived on scene and requested the keys to the apartment. Redacted stated the two females wrestled over the keys but never punched her or hit each other. They then left the area after redacted was able to get a hold of the keys.

The officers spoke regarding the incident via telephone. The victim did not want to pursue charges and wanted the keys to the apartment and mailbox. The office returned to speak with redacted and obtain the keys to the apartment and mailbox. They met with the victim at the address to verify the keys belong to the apartment. The other officer remained with redacted while they verified redacted had informed me she did not have any duplicates.

Redacted was issued a no trespass to the apartment.
