Sarah Carda shot 3 times in the head, Domestic Violence

Sarah Carda was shot 3 times in the head by her husband Mike Carda. Mike was said to be into drugs and abusive. On Friday October 6, 2023, he took the life of his wife Sarah.

Chisago County Deputies were called to a disturbance at a home on the 42000 block of Elmcrest Avenue in Fish Lake Township around noon. The victim’s mother, was outside the house said that she had heard arguing inside the home, and was worried because there were a large number of weapons inside. She was visibly shaking as she told this to investigators.

As a deputy proceeded towards the home, he could hear yelling, but was not able to hear what the man was saying. He knocked on the glass of a side window, he could hear a woman say, “He has a gun.” The deputy heard three shots. Backing away from the window, the deputy said the suspect fired three more rounds through the same window where the deputy had just been standing, with the bullets exiting “at head-level.”

The Chisago County SWAT team responded to the scene and the sheriff’s office asked the public to avoid the area on Facebook. Crews blocked off roads in the vicinity for several hours. The stand-off was hours long.

Finally, at around 4:20 pm, the sheriff’s office said a man, later identified as Mike Carda, 39 was taken into custody.

A Sarah was found shot to death inside the home.

Carda is in the Chisago County Jail held on 2nd degree murder, along with additional charges of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. $2million cash bail.

Our hearts are broken and our agency is devastated as we grieve the loss of our fellow employee, partner and friend. Sarah Carda, a Registered Nurse with Advanced Correctional Healthcare, was killed yesterday in a senseless act of domestic violence. Sarah served as our nurse at our correctional facility in santi County since 2014.

Words cannot fully describe the shock and pain our agency and community are feeling. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences are with Sarah’s family and friends. We pray that Sarah’s loving memories bring you strength and comfort during this difficult time. Our office is thankful for the overwhelming community support we have received.
