On Monday 6 February, a man with a sword was finally detained after a 4+ hour stand off at Greysolon plaza. Duluth PD and Tactical Response Team spent 4 hours in negotiations with the man before the TRT breached the door and took the man into custody.
It began with a phone call from a resident next door to the sword welding man’s location on the 8th floor. Police were called. Yelling and howling was coming from the apartment. The man was yelling and threatening of killing people and stabbing and knifing people and fileting them with a knife. Residents were evacuated.
The man who was an unwanted guest, was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation and the sword was confiscated.
