Michael Avenatti plead “Not guilty” in June to the federal court in Manhattan on charges of extorting Nike Inc. The judge set his trial date to 12 November 2019. Avenatti was arrested on 25 March 2019 in New York on charges of trying to extort more than $20 million from Nike by threatening to expose what he called its improper payments to recruits for college basketball teams it sponsored. Avenatti was released from Manhattan federal court after signing a $300,000 personal recognizance bond.
Avenatti was indicted in a separate case charging him with stealing about $300,000 from his former p0rn star client Stephanie Clifford aka Stormy Daniels.
Now in California, he is accused of embezzling a $1.6 million settlement from a client’s trust fund and providing false tax records to obtain a $4.1 million business loan from a bank. As usual Avenatti pleaded not guilty 29 April 2019 to federal fraud and embezzlement charges during a brief hearing at the federal courthouse in Santa Ana. The offenses started around January 2014 and ended around March 2019 according to the DOJ! A tentative date of 28 January 2020 was set for the trial.
