***Shooting***

This evening around 6:45 p.m. Brooklyn Center officers were called to the 5600 block of Brooklyn Blvd. frontage road for multiple reports of shots fired. Upon arrival officers found multiple casings in the parking lot. eventually it was discovered that upwards of 50 or more casings were located by three different caliber weapons. Officers canvased the area and did not locate any victims. While on scene officers checked with local area hospitals and shortly thereafter we were notified that one gunshot victim arrived at a local area hospital. Eventually 5 additional victims arrived at that same hospital, all 6 victims had nonlife threatening injuries. Multiple Detectives were called in to assist in the investigation. At this time, we have several active leads that we are pursuing. We don’t believe this was a random act and the general public is not at risk. Currently, we do not have any suspects in custody. We were assisted in this investigation by the Hennepin County Crime lab and Patrol division.

Minneapolis Man Sentenced to 12.5 Years in Prison for Violent Carjacking Outside Northeast Minneapolis Restaurant

ST. PAUL, Minn. – A Minneapolis man has been sentenced to 151 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for violently carjacking a woman outside her place of work in northeast Minneapolis as well as his involvement in two additional armed carjackings, announced United States Attorney Andrew M. Luger.

According to court documents, on June 9, 2022, Shamir Nathann Black, 19, and an unidentified accomplice approached a woman outside of her place of work and demanded her car keys. Black proceeded to push the victim to the ground and hit her on the head with a firearm. A bystander attempted to assist the victim but was also assaulted by Black. During the struggle, Black discharged the firearm in the bystander’s direction. Black and an accomplice then got into the victim’s vehicle, but surrounding witnesses pulled Black from the driver’s seat and put him on the ground. Black and his accomplice fled the scene on foot.

After arriving at the scene, officers with the Minneapolis Police Department located a Shadow Systems 9mm semiautomatic pistol wrapped in a gray sweatshirt. The firearm had been reported stolen in Prior Lake in April 2022. Investigators reviewed a social media video that showed Black waving around a handgun that matched the firearm recovered at the crime scene. Further investigation revealed that a Volkswagen Jetta had been taken in a Prior Lake home burglary on the same night the firearm was stolen. Law enforcement later recovered the stolen Jetta from Black’s Minneapolis residence. On June 24, 2022, Black was taken into custody.

Black pleaded guilty on September 20, 2022, to one count of carjacking and admitted to being involved in two additional armed carjackings in Golden Valley in the spring of 2022. Black was sentenced today before Judge Wilhelmina M. Wright.

This case was the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI, the Minneapolis Police Department, the Golden Valley Police Department, and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren O. Roso prosecuted the case.

On October 14, 2015, 37-year-old Synika George James lost his life while saving children from gunfire that erupted during a vigil in St. Paul.

James died as he was pushing kids out of the way of danger as gunshots erupted while James and others were attending a 6 p.m. memorial gathering for Naressa “NuNu” Turner who died as a result of a shooting in the same Dayton’s Bluff alley, three years prior also on October 14.

While the brief 15 minute vigil of family and friends was underway, witnesses said a vehicle pulled up and its occupants started firing. It is not believed that James, a longtime friend of NuNu’s family was the target. “They were just shooting at everybody,” a witness said. James was attending the vigil held in the alley at Cypress Street and Reaney Avenue with his two older sisters.

The sadness of family and friends of James have led them to raise funds to offer a reward through Crime Stoppers of Minnesota of up to $5,000 for information submitted to Crime Stoppers while remaining anonymous. It is hoped that somebody who knows the shooter(s) can help in finding those responsible while knowing that their communication with Crime Stoppers is confidential and they will not be revealed to the public. The murderer of NuNu, Joseph Haywood Campbell has been convicted and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Department of Justice
U.S. Attorney’s Office
District of Minnesota
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday, January 12, 2022

Minneapolis Woman Sentenced to 100 Months in Prison for Role in Violent Twin Cities Carjacking Spree

MINNEAPOLIS – A Minneapolis woman was sentenced to 100 months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $13,323.53 in restitution, for her role in a string of violent carjackings throughout the Twin Cities. Acting U.S. Attorney Charles J. Kovats made the announcement after U.S. District Judge Patrick J. Schiltz sentenced the defendant.

“The staggering increase in carjackings throughout the Twin Cities metro has not gone unnoticed by federal law enforcement,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Charles J. Kovats. “In partnership with local and federal law enforcement, we will not hesitate to prosecute individuals who perpetrate this type of violence in our communities. Today’s sentence highlights the seriousness of these crimes and the significant penalties facing those who commit them.”

“The recent spike in carjackings has spread a sense of terror and fear across our communities, and we are pleased that this sentence sends a strong message of deterrence to those seeking to victimize our neighbors,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Michael Paul. “The FBI is committed to doing all we can to work with our partners to stop this menace and bring back a sense of peace and calm throughout our metropolitan neighborhoods.”

According to court documents, on August 28, 2020, Krisanne Marie Benjamin, 25, and her co-defendant Jeremiah Lee Ironrope, 25, drove a maroon SUV to a parking lot in Richfield, where they parked near a 2017 Audi. Ironrope approached the driver of the Audi and pointed a Remington 870 l2-gauge shotgun, with a sawed-off barrel, at the driver and demanded the car keys. Benjamin kept watch from the maroon SUV as Ironrope started the Audi and drove away. Benjamin followed in the maroon SUV.

According to court documents, in the early morning hours of August 29, 2020, the Minnesota State Patrol used GPS data to track and locate the stolen Audi, which was driven by Ironrope and occupied by Benjamin. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but Ironrope drove away at a high rate of speed, while cutting across multiple lanes of traffic, swerving between cars, and driving through red lights. During the flight from law enforcement, Benjamin got out of the vehicle and fled on foot while Ironrope continued fleeing in the Audi. Law enforcement found the vehicle running and unoccupied in Minneapolis. The vehicle had been partially spray-painted black. Inside officers found a stolen wallet, bottles of spray paint, a hat, gloves, and receipts. Law enforcement also found a used l2-gauge shotgun shell under the driver’s seat.

On September 7, 2021, Benjamin pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting carjacking. On September 9, 2021, Co-defendant Ironrope pleaded guilty to one count of carjacking and one count of using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. He is scheduled to be sentenced on April 7, 2022 by U.S. District Court Judge Patrick J. Schiltz.

As part of their guilty pleas, Ironrope and Benjamin admitted to two additional carjackings that occurred on July 26, 2020, in Maple Grove and August 7, 2020, in St. Paul. In both instances, the defendants physically assaulted the victims before stealing their vehicles. Ironrope also admitted to two December 2020 carjackings occurring in St. Louis Park and St. Paul. In both instances, Ironrope pointed a handgun at the victims before stealing their vehicles.

This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI, the Minneapolis Police Department, the St. Paul Police Department, the Maple Grove Police Department, the Richfield Police Department, the Edina Police Department, the Roseville Police Department, and the Minnesota State Patrol.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan H. Nelson.

Hagos Tsegay Melake, 26 was found murdered on 29 August 2013 slumped against a building on Hamline Ave North, in Shoreview.

Hagos took a bus after 9 p.m. from his home to downtown St. Paul on 28 August to the Hunan Garden Restaurant on Cedar Street. He went by himself and arrived around 10 pm. Hagos left the restaurant with 2 men around 1:45 am according to a witness.

At 6:40 am police were called to a body lying in they parking lot of a business. The caller explained that they had seen someone laying on the ground near the building. When the deputy arrived they found that the man was Hagos, who had been shot in the back if the head and killed. At the time, Hagos was also not carrying any forms of identification.

The 2 people Hagos left with are pictures below. One of them was an African-American male with a shaved head, and the other was a light-skinned person of an uncertain gender and race with short dark hair and an orange or red t-shirt. The second person also had several arm tattoos.

Time to look at the Twin Cities murders for 2021.

Minneapolis aka Murderapolis leads the way with 97 murders. That number is tied with their 1995 murders.
BTW, Minneapolis has its first homicide on Saturday 8 January 2022. Of course it’s not the first shooting. A man lying in the street with a gunshot wound on the 4200 block of 11th Avenue South around 9:40 p.m. on reports of shots fired and a crashed car.

St. Paul had 35 murders, the youngest was a 2 years old. Ramsey County 2021 murder victims
ICYMI St. Paul had their first homicide Sunday 9 January 2022. A woman in her 40s was stabbed at about 2:30 p.m. at an apartment building in the 100 block of West Larpenteur Ave, and police later arrested a man.

St. Cloud had 5 murders.

According to homesnacks.net their numbers are wrong. No wonder they’ve been mentioned on abc, nbc, and cbs!

Asa Huff-Jones, 17, of Brooklyn Park, and 18-year-old Rayevan Smith, of Minneapolis, each pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree aggravated robbery.

Smith also has a fraud charge, I’m assuming the asinine D.A. dropped that charge.

Minneapolis needs to get it together. If these kids can do the crime, they need to do the time! Enough of the righteous crap! Believe me, I don’t believe Minneapolis has seen the worst of it yet!

Not even 19 years old and these kids are 4 time felons! Good job!

From the Hennepin County Attorneys office:

Two juveniles, both certified to stand trial as adults, pleaded guilty on Dec. 15 to charges relating to carjacking incidents, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Friday.

Asa Huff-Jones, 17, of Brooklyn Park, and 18-year-old Rayevan Smith, of Minneapolis, each pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree aggravated robbery. Neither Huff-Jones nor Smith were involved in the same offenses.

Huff-Jones was certified to stand trial as an adult on Nov. 16. As part of his plea agreement, Huff-Jones was sentenced on the following charges on Dec. 15:

First-degree aggravated robbery: 27-CR-21-21303 – 86 months in prison.

First-degree aggravated robbery: 27-CR-21-21318 – 58 months in prison.

First-degree aggravated robbery 27-CR-21-21302 – 78 months in prison.

First-degree aggravated robbery: 27-CR-21-21304 – 48 months in prison.

These sentences will be served concurrently for a total of 86 months in prison.

As for Smith, he was certified as an adult on Dec. 1st. As part of his plea agreement, Smith pleaded guilty to the following charges, and is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 3:

First-degree aggravated robbery: 27-CR-21-22155 – 93 months in prison.

First-degree aggravated robbery: 27-CR-22163 – 58 months in prison.

First-degree aggravated robbery: 27-CR-22164 – 78 months in prison.

First-degree aggravated robbery: 27-CR-22165 – 48 months in prison.

These anticipated sentences are expected to be served concurrently for a total of 93 months in prison.

“Our office is committed to prosecuting carjacking cases submitted to us to the fullest extent of the law,” Freeman stated. “We take these matters seriously, and are doing everything in our power to ensure those who commit violent felony offenses are punished for their infractions.”

At the time of their respective offenses, Huff-Jones was 16-years-old and Smith was 17-years-old.

On September 26, 1980, 19-year-old Diane Edwards was abducted while walking home from her waitressing job at a Perkins Restaurant in West St. Paul. Four teen-age girls witnessed her abduction. They saw a station wagon drive west on Moreland Avenue, pull onto the sidewalk and stop by a woman walking there alone. The girls heard the woman scream and observed the driver of the station wagon force the woman into his car through the driver’s door. They immediately reported the event to the police. Although they were unable to identify the driver or to precisely describe the make, model or year of the vehicle involved, they did inform the police that the abducted woman wore a Perkins uniform and was driven away in a dark-colored station wagon with wood-grain panels.

Kathy Dahn, who was sitting in her car in a laundromat parking lot on Moreland Avenue, also witnessed the abduction. She noticed a man driving an older, brown, somewhat rusty station wagon jump out of the wagon, pick a woman up over his head and throw her into the car through the driver’s door. She also heard the woman screaming. She did not contact the police until she heard a news report of the missing Diane Edwards the next day.

A few minutes prior to the abduction, Tomi Willems had been forced off the road near the intersection of Thompson and Oakdale in West St. Paul by an older model, dark brown station wagon. She had stopped at a stop sign when the station wagon lightly rear-ended her car. When she turned around, the driver of the station wagon was grinning at her. The man then drove alongside her car, hopped out of the station wagon, and attempted to open the locked passenger door of Ms. Willems’ car. In an attempt to avoid him, she turned left, but the man pursued her in the station wagon and forced her to stop by driving ahead of her and blocking the road. Thereupon, she began honking her automobile horn. As a car approached her from the rear, the station wagon drove away. This incident happened within minutes before, and only a few blocks away from, the abduction of Diane Edwards. Later, Ms. Willems was unable to positively identify the man but described him as being in his mid-20’s, unshaven and with brown hair below ear length.

On October 9, 1980, a hunter discovered Diane Edwards’ purse on a side road in rural Sherburne County. A few hours later, police discovered Ms. Edwards’ naked body lying face down in a ditch close to where the purse had been found. Ms. Edwards’ clothes were lying in a pile next to her. Further search uncovered Ms. Edwards’ glasses, but nothing was discovered providing a possible lead to the abductor’s identity.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner concluded that Ms. Edwards had died from *507 loss of blood resulting from stab wounds in the chest area. In his opinion the stab wounds had been caused by a single-bladed instrument, such as a buck knife, with a 6-inch long blade. He concluded she had died between 11:30 p.m. on September 26, 1980, and 1 a.m. on September 27, 1980. In addition to the stab wounds, the examiner noted four bruises on the face, one bruise on the right shoulder, and what looked like rope marks on the arms. A sexual assault examination was also conducted on the body. It revealed traces of sperm in the cervical area. Because of decomposition, blood-typing on the sperm sample was inconclusive.

A week later West St. Paul police received information that Joseph Ture had been a suspect in a criminal sexual conduct case in Hopkins. At the time of his arrest on the Hopkins charge, defendant had in his possession a number of names of waitresses in the metropolitan area. Later, West St. Paul police learned that defendant had two outstanding misdemeanor traffic tickets in their city. Hoping to question defendant about the Edwards case, they obtained a warrant for defendant’s arrest for these traffic offenses. However, the warrants were never executed because West St. Paul police in the interim were informed by the Minneapolis police department that defendant had been arrested in Minneapolis on October 30, 1980 on charges of attempted rape and kidnapping.

The Dakota County sheriff’s department and the West St. Paul police questioned defendant several times over the next 2 months at the Hennepin County jail. Thereafter, any contact by officers from Dakota County or West St. Paul ceased until approximately 3 months later. Subsequently, as a result of further interrogations in April and May 1981, defendant was charged with first-degree premeditated murder, first-degree murder during a sexual assault, two counts of kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct in the first degree.

“Diane” was inspired by the murder of St. Paul waitress Diane Edwards by Joseph Ture in 1980. Ture would later be tried and convicted for the murder of another waitress, Marlys Wolenhaus, and the murders of Alice Huling and three of her four children in 1978. The song was written and sung by Hüsker Dü drummer Grant Hart.

Interview with guitarist Bob Mould, drummer Grant Hart knew Edwards:

1984 interview: It’s based on a true story. There was this girl Diane Edwards who Grant knew sort of vaguely. She was working at the Perkins Restaurant, which is like Country Kitchen, one of those chains, and she was picked up hitchhiking. The guy who picked her up drove her down to Elk River, down by the Girl Scout camp there, and raped her and stabbed her over and over…it got a lot of publicity. It was in all of the newspapers, a real local thing. It’s not a condoning of anything, it’s just an account of what happened.

2012 interview: I stopped playing Diane because I could no longer stand putting on the mask of a monster. A book came out about one of Diane Edwards’ murderer’s other victims [Justice for Marlys by John Munday (2004)] and it made me physically sick. There was not as much info about the Edwards murder as the other girls. The cruelty that this psychopath confessed to made me bloody-minded myself.

Lyrics:

Hey little girl, do you need a ride?
Well, I’ve got room in my wagon why don’t you hop inside
We could cruise down Robert Street all night long
But I think I’ll just rape you and kill you instead

Diane, Diane, Diane
Diane, Diane, Diane
Diane, Diane, Diane
Diane, Diane, Diane

I heard there’s a party down at Lake Cove
It would be so much easier if I drove
We could check it out, we could go and see
Oh, won’t you come and take a ride with me

Diane, Diane, Diane
Diane, Diane, Diane
Diane, Diane, Diane
Diane, Diane, Diane

We could lay in the weeds for a little while
I’ll put your clothes in a nice, neat little pile
You’re the cutest girl I’ve ever seen in my life
It’s all over now, and with my knife

Diane, Diane, Diane
Diane, Diane, Diane
Diane, Diane, Diane, Diane

Alice Huling and 3 of her 4 children were murdered on 15 December 1978.

During the early morning hours of 15 December 1978, Alice Huling and three of her four children were murdered in their house located in rural Stearns County.   The surviving child, William Huling, was 11 years old at the time and was the only witness to the murders.   At trial, William testified that he was asleep in the upstairs bedroom he shared with his 13-year-old brother, Wayne, when at approximately 4:00 a.m. he was awakened by loud noises coming from the kitchen below.   He heard muffled noises and wrestling, and then a gunshot.   A short while later, he heard footsteps coming up the stairs and saw a person standing in the doorway to the bedroom.   The person appeared to be of medium build, less than six feet tall, and wearing a stocking cap.   William could see a silhouette of the person’s face, but not well enough to make a positive identification. From his bed, Wayne asked, “Who are you?”   The person fired a shotgun at Wayne, killing him instantly.   The person then left the boys’ room and went to 16-year-old Susie’s bedroom where he shot her in the head, and proceeded to 12-year-old Patti’s bedroom where he shot her in the head.   Both girls died instantly.   After shooting both girls, the gunman returned to the boys’ room and fired twice at William, missing both times, and then left.   After 10 or 15 minutes, William got out of bed and fled to a neighbor’s house.

On the morning of December 19, four days after the murders, Wright County Deputy Sheriff Gary Miller was dispatched to the restaurant at the Clearwater Travel Plaza in response to a complaint about a customer later identified as Joseph Ture. After learning that the car Ture was driving had been reported stolen, Miller arrested Ture for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and placed Ture, handcuffed, in the back of his squad car.   Upon entering Ture’s car to look for its keys and a newspaper Ture indicated he wanted, Miller discovered a metal bar, approximately 32 inches in length, on the front passenger seat.   Miller seized the metal bar, transported Ture to the Wright County Sheriff’s Department, and arranged for Ture’s car to be towed.   Miller and another officer conducted an inventory search of Ture’s car, during which the toy car 1 and ski mask were discovered.   No weapons or ammunition were found.

Several of the items found during the search, including the toy car, the ski mask, and the metal bar discovered earlier, were turned over to Deputy James Kostreba and Detective Ross Baker of the Stearns County Sheriff’s Department, who were investigating the Huling murders.   Kostreba and Baker interviewed Ture on December 20, 1978.   An audiotape of the interview was played to the jury at Ture’s trial.   During the interview, Ture said that he had been fired from his job a few days before and that he had been living out of his car.   Ture stated that the toy car belonged to him and that he had grandchildren.   Ture then indicated that the toy car was for his sister’s children.   Ture was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and released on January 4, 1979.   Although Ture was not charged with the Huling murders at that time, he remained a suspect.

In 1981, Ture was incarcerated with Toby Krominga at the Sherburne County Jail. According to Krominga, Ture confessed to murdering the Hulings and signed a written confession that Krominga had drafted according to Ture’s instructions.   Although the police obtained a copy of the written confession and questioned Ture on several occasions about the confession and the murders, no charges were brought against Ture. In the summer of 1998, Ture and Randall Ferguson were inmates at Minnesota Correctional Facility-Oak Park Heights.   According to Ferguson, Ture confessed to the Huling murders.   Ferguson informed the authorities of Ture’s statements in August 1998, and in May 1999 Ture was indicted on four counts of first-degree murder. Ture was found guilty!

On November 8, 2021, officers responded to a travel trailer on fire near the intersection of 35th Avenue South and Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. After the fire was put out, officers found the body of an adult female (“Victim”). The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office was later able to identify Victim based on responses to a press release. Victim was approximately seven months pregnant.

Victim’s body was partially sitting against a cabinet in the trailer. The fire inspector examined the trailer and detected combustible gas on a mattress and on Victim’s body.

Officers interviewed witnesses from the area and learned that a woman had been seen driving a black Tahoe with the trailer attached. One of the witnesses stated the woman in the black Tahoe asked her for a cigarette and the witness gave her one. Shortly thereafter, the witness saw the trailer on fire.

Minneapolis Police Department investigators tracked the history of the trailer and determined that on September 11, 2021, it had been sold to a man and woman matching the descriptions of Defendants herein, SHANNON MICHAEL BENSON and JADE MONET RISSELL. Officers showed photos of Defendants to the seller of the trailer and the woman from whom Defendant RISSELL had bummed a cigarette on November 8, and both witnesses confirmed the identity of both Defendants.

Investigators interviewed persons close with Victim. They learned that Victim had been reported missing in Anoka sometime between October 29-31, 2021. Victim’s boyfriend stated that he had attempted to locate her using the “Tile” app that tracks lost keys. On October 31, 2021, the Tile app had led Victim’s boyfriend to the area of 4th Avenue South and East 25th Street in Minneapolis. There, Victim’s boyfriend had taken a picture of the travel trailer that was burned on November 8, along with a black Tahoe and another, shorter travel trailer.

Investigators went to 4th Avenue South and East 25th Street and observed the Tahoe and the shorter trailer, in which Defendants were residing. They located Defendants and arrested them.

In a post-Miranda interview, Defendant RISSELL admitted to lighting the trailer on fire to cover up Victim’s body. She stated that approximately a week before the fire, she had lured Victim over Facebook to she and Defendant BENSON’S larger trailer (the one set on fire) at 4th Avenue South and East 25th Street, then assaulted her with brass knuckles, knocking her unconscious. She stated that Defendant BENSON was aware of this and they did not call 911. She stated they left Victim in the larger trailer for a few days, then she took the trailer to 35th and Hennepin to burn it.

After speaking with Defendant RISSELL, Investigators let Defendants sit in a room together while being recorded. Defendant RISSELL said to Defendant BENSON “they have too much information,” and “I told them it was me.” They then both started to cry. Defendant RISSELL asked Defendant BENSON to “make a bad joke,” and Defendant BENSON said “at least it’s not a sex crime.” Defendant RISSELL said “I’m going in for murder,” and Defendant BENSON said “me too.”

Both Defendants are in custody.

St. Paul Police found a woman dead and her husband shot after responding to a burglary report at 6:30 a.m. April 25, 2010 in St. Paul.
Wcco.com

St. Paul Police are investigation a shooting the left a woman dead and her husband injured.

It happened around 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning in the 1700 block of West Minnehaha Avenue in St Paul.

Many who live along West Minnehaha Avenue in St. Paul say they find it hard to believe someone in their neighborhood was shot and killed in their own home.

“They were very quiet. They would say hello but basically kept to themselves,” said neighbor Carrie Donovan.

St. Paul Police say they were called to the two-story home after a 911 call was made claiming someone was trying to break into the house.

The call was interrupted.

By the time police were dispatched, a second call came into 911 claiming shots were fired and two people were hit.

Heidi Firkus, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her husband, 27-year-old Nicholas Firkus, was taken to Regions Hospital where he was treated, released and then questioned by police.

Nicholas Firkus told investigators he and his wife Heidi were upstairs and heard a noise at the door.

He armed himself with a double barrel shotgun and he and his wife went downstairs to check things out.

“He was confronted by a man who was now coming through the front door of the home. A struggle ensued over the shotgun,” said Sgt. Paul Schnell. “The shotgun went off, the wife was shot. He said that the struggle continued at which time he was shot. The suspect then left the home and he went to tend to his wife.”

Police say Nicholas Firkus has a vague description of the man he says broke into his home.

“The home was secured, there was no sign of forced entry,” said Schnell.

Police say two shots were fired but so far their search of the home has not turned up evidence of a struggle.

“We have a report from this man. We have both he and his wife were shot and at this point in time investigators are going to follow the evidence in this case and there is a lot of processing to be done here,” said Schnell.

Nicholas Firkus told investigators the man who committed this crime was about 6-foot to 6-foot, 2 inches tall and weighing 200 to 220 pounds. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt but police say Nicholas Firkus could not determine the man’s race.

Investigators did recover the shotgun from the scene and will continue to process the house looking for clues they hope will lead them to a killer.

This is the seventh homicide this year in St. Paul.

Investigators say an autopsy will be performed on Heidi Firkus on Monday. By then processing of the scene should be complete. That’s when investigators say they will speak with Nicholas Firkus again.

St. Paul woman’s death ruled a homicide
Startribune.com [http://www.startribune.com/local/stpaul/92270894.html]

An autopsy showed that Heidi Marie Firkus, 25, died from a gunshot wound to her back, St. Paul police said Tuesday.

The manner of death was ruled a homicide, said spokesman Sgt. Paul Schnell.

Firkus was shot in the kitchen of her home at 1794 W. Minnehaha Av. on Sunday during what her husband described as a struggle with an intruder over a shotgun.

Her husband, Nick, 27, told police that when he confronted the intruder at 6:30 a.m., the weapon fired, killing Heidi. He was wounded in the leg when the gun discharged a second time, he told police.

Schnell said police investigators cleared the scene about 2 p.m. Tuesday after two days of seeking clues at the house.

“There will be a considerable amount of lab processing that will take place,” he said.

No arrests had been made, he said.

Nick Firkus told police he confronted a tall intruder wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt. He was unable to provide details, including the assailant’s race, police said.

No evidence of a break-in was found, police said.

Husband Not Ruled Out In Unsolved St. Paul Murder

Wcco.com

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) — One year after a St. Paul woman was shot in her home, police are still looking for her killer. Nick Firkus told police his wife, Heidi Firkus, was shot at home while he was fighting off an intruder. Detectives have not ruled out Nick Firkus as a suspect.

“This is a very complicated case,” said Senior Commander Bill Martinez of the St. Paul Police Department.

For the last year, Martinez has been focused on Heidi Firkus.

“Not a day goes by that we don’t touch this case, we think about Heidi and try to bring some justice to her and closure to her family,” said Martinez.

It was April 25, 2010, when officers arrived to her home on Minnehaha Avenue. She had been shot to death and her husband, Nick Firkus, was shot in the leg.

Nick Firkus told officers he was fighting off an intruder. A composite sketch was made and the public was asked to help.

“Typically we would get people calling saying, ‘I think this looks like this guy. I think it looks like this guy,’ but that has not happened,” said Martinez.

“Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn’t,” said Joe Friedberg, Nick Firkus’ attorney.

Detectives have yet to rule out Nick Firkus as a suspect. They’ve asked him to speak to police a second time. The last time they questioned him was shortly after his wife was killed.

“So there are a lot of questions we have that we’re still working to get answers to,” said Martinez

But Friedberg said he’s told his client not to talk.

“They’re looking to find a few little inconsistencies that they can use to claim that he’s lying and I’m not going to let that happen,” said Friedberg.

Detectives would also like Nick Firkus to answer questions about the couple’s financial problems. A search warrant filed last year shows the couple’s home was about to be foreclosed on April 26.

However, the warrant said nothing in the home had been packed. Heidi Firkus’ family also told investigators she wasn’t aware of the money issues.

Nick Firkus’ attorney said that’s not true.

“These are kids that decided they wanted out. They were underwater on their house and they lived in it rent free as long as they could and were going to move to an apartment,” said Friedberg.

“We aren’t rushing judgment on him,” said Martinez.

In a murder investigation, those closest to the victim are often put under the microscope, but Friedberg believes it’s time for police to start looking elsewhere.

“Everybody said that they had a great marriage. I don’t know what else we could do,” said Friedberg.

So 17 million people watched the “Meghan Markle show”! That’s really a lot of people watching a shit show! I have not seen it, but have listened to snippets of her answers. Of course I listened to the questions too, but the answers are where the lies are!

But first the Queens response! Short and sweet and it’s definitely not what Hazbeen and Meggies expected! How do I know, the Queen doesn’t go on about how great Meggies is……

Here are a few of Meghan’s lies that are fact checked:

LIE: Meghan said the royal family had decided not to bestow a title on Archie. She said she was never given a reason why the first member of color in this family was not being titled in the same way that other grandchildren would be.

FACT: First off Archie is a great-grandchild. Only 3 of the GREAT-grandchildren have titles and that’s Williams and Catherine kids: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand in Finding Freedom, “Harry and Meghan – who were going to register Archie for dual citizenship-decided to forgo a title for their son because they wanted him to be a private citizen until he was at an age where he could decide which path to take.”

LIE: Markle’s sister, Samantha Markle, changed her last name to match Meghan’s after she started dating Prince Harry.

FACT: Samantha changed her name from Yvonne to Samantha in 1997 and used the name Markle.

LIE: Markle: “Thank God I didn’t know a lot about the family,” she said.
“Thank God I hadn’t researched. I would’ve been so in my head about it.”

FACT: Markles childhood best friend Ninaki Priddy: “I think it’s a very fanciful dream to believe that you just walk into a Prince Charming.

“I know the Royal Family was something she found fascinating. She had one of Princess Diana’s books [Diana: Her True Story] on her bookshelf, and even when she was with Trevor she told me she wanted to go and stay in London for at least a month.”

She added: “I wasn’t shocked or even surprised to hear about Prince Harry. I know she used to love The Princess Diaries — films about a commoner who becomes part of a Royal Family. She was very taken with that idea.”

Meghan is very creepy! She has stalked Haz’s old girlfriends. She was trying hard to fit in!
