Under Minnesota law, a conviction of first-degree burglary carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a $35,000 fine, or both.

Mitchell has told colleagues that she intended to resign if found guilty of this crime. She was found guilty and is now a felon!

Minnesota Senator Nicole Mitchell is charged with felony first-degree burglary and felony charge of possessing burglary or theft tools. Mitchell broke into her stepmother’s house in Detroit Lakes and took several items belonging to her late father after her stepmom ceased contact with her.
