Leona 83, was found stabbed, beaten and strangled on 5 October 1987, in her duplex residence at 328 Seventh St. South in Virginia.

Evidence collected at the scene was tested by the BCA’s Forensic Science Services, but did not yield any information that could definitively point to a suspect in the case, at the time.

While leads went cold, Virginia Police Department investigators and BCA agents continued to work the case, and as forensic testing capabilities improved, the BCA lab periodically reexamined the evidence.

Bruce Wayne Cameron

Eventually, two fingerprints and a palm print were located on a bedroom door which was next to where Leona’s body was found. The prints belonged to rson, who would have been 16 at the time of the murder.

Cameron was arrested 4 June 2015. Cameron was arraigned in St. Louis County District Court on a charge of intentional 2nd-degree murder. Bail was set at $1m.

The defendant admitted that he was most likely drunk that night. He said he came down the back stairwell to Mrs. Maslowski’s residence, the door was not locked and he went into the kitchen looking for alcohol to drink. The woman confronted him. He thought she was moving toward a telephone. He said he punched her in the face, pushed her down, continued to hit her with an object from her residence and possibly choked her.

Cameron said he didn’t know if a knife was involved, but that all of her injuries would have been caused by him. He said she was lying on the floor when he left and that he didn’t steal anything. [Kare11]

Judge David Ackerson [who is now retired] threw out Cameron’s confession as inadmissible.

Cameron’s attorney argued the confession was coerced and his client was misled into believing he would face only juvenile charges.

The judge’s order says Cameron must be freed by 31 October 2016.

And with that, you can make your own conclusions!
