Vanessa Jensen 19 had gone with her cousins to watch street racing in Minneapolis when she was shoot 3 times and killed on the 2200 block of North Second Street at about 1:30 am on 5 June 2021.

Vanessa was shot three times, one in each arm and one in her chest while she was watching street takeovers at North Second street and North 22nd Avenue, Minneapolis. Vanessa and her cousins were in the front row watching street racing, burnouts and donuts by “Hot Rodders”. A shooting broke out, and if you watch any videos online, a shooting always seems to breakout. Vanessa and her cousins thought it was fireworks then realized it was gun shots. They ran back to their vehicle and that’s when she told her cousins she was shot. They rushed her to the hospital where she passed away.

Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announces charges against Derrick John Thompson

Hennepin County Attorney, U.S. Attorney coordinate on additional drug, gun charges

Court: 06/23/2023 01:30 PM
First Appearance
Judicial Officer: Lamas, Carolina A.
Location: PSF 141

Note: There is a file embedded within this post, please visit this post to download the file.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty today announced that Derrick John Thompson, 27, of Brooklyn Park, has been charged in Hennepin County District Court with 10 counts of criminal vehicular homicide after Thompson’s grossly negligent and criminally reckless driving conduct led to a crash on June 16 that killed five young women. Moriarty added that the office will seek a separate sentence for each victim if Thompson is convicted. While these charges have been filed, additional evidence is still being processed, including Thompson’s blood toxicology and DNA testing.

Law enforcement responding to the scene of the crash also recovered a Glock 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine, along with significant quantities of fentanyl from Thompson’s vehicle. As the County Attorney’s Office began its review of the evidence in this case, Moriarty engaged in discussions with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI about possible federal charges related to the firearm and narcotics.

“The deaths of these five young women is devastating for their loved ones and has shaken our community,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “We value each of these young women’s lives and plan to seek a separate sentence for each life lost. I firmly believe in the potential for redemption and second chances, but Mr. Thompson has repeatedly engaged in extraordinarily dangerous criminal driving conduct related to apparent large-scale drug dealing. He has caused immeasurable pain and suffering in multiple states and we will seek a significant sentence that appropriately reflects the devastation he has caused and ensures a lengthy period of incapacitation.”

“When you get behind the wheel of a vehicle, you control a dangerous weapon capable of inflicting horrific destruction. Every driver must recognize that fact. We cannot tolerate this level of recklessness on our roads, especially when it comes with the dangerous combination of guns and drugs.”

According to the criminal complaint filed by the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office:

On or about June 16, 2023, at approximately 10:09 p.m., a Minnesota State Trooper was stationed in a fully marked Minnesota State Patrol squad vehicle at the bus stop on I-35W North at 46th Street in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, when the Trooper observed a black Cadillac Escalade SUV traveling northbound on I-35W drive by the Trooper at a high rate of speed. The radar on the Trooper’s squad vehicle indicated the black Cadillac Escalade was traveling 95 mph in a 55-mph zone. The black Cadillac Escalade was also weaving in and out of traffic lanes in a reckless manner. The Trooper attempted to catch up to the black Cadillac Escalade. However, prior to the Trooper catching up to the black Cadillac Escalade and attempting to initiate a traffic stop, the black Cadillac Escalade, which was traveling in the far-left lane, abruptly cut across all four lanes of traffic and exited I-35 at the Lake Street exit ramp at a high rate of speed. The Trooper never activated their emergency lights or sirens.

The black Cadillac Escalade continued to travel at a high rate of speed northbound down the exit ramp and through the 2nd Avenue and East Lake Street intersection. The black Cadillac Escalade did not stop or slow down for the red light at the intersection but proceeded through the intersection at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a black Honda Civic had the green light and was lawfully traveling westbound on East Lake Street through the intersection. The black Cadillac Escalade collided violently with the black Honda Civic and t-boned the black Honda Civic on the driver side of the vehicle in the middle of the intersection causing catastrophic damage to both vehicles. The black Cadillac Escalade crashed into the Black Honda Civic with enough force to crush the black Honda Civic, pushing the black Honda Civic out of the intersection and pinning it against the wall of the I-35W bridge. The crash was caught on video surveillance cameras in the area.

The five occupants of the black Honda Civic were subsequently identified. The driver of black Honda Civic was identified as adult female victim S.G., age 20. The front seat passenger was identified as adult female victim S.O., age 19. The back seat passengers were identified as adult female victims S.A., age 20, and S.H., age 19, and a known juvenile female victim, age 17.

The Trooper observed the crash from approximately 0.15 miles to the south and activated his lights and emergency sirens to respond to the crash. The Trooper immediately went to the black Honda Civic. The Trooper observed that the black Honda Civic had extensive damage and all five victims in the Honda Civic had no signs of life and were deceased. EMS subsequently arrived at the scene and pronounced all five victims deceased.

The black Cadillac Escalade also had significant damage throughout the vehicle. Routine checks revealed the black Cadillac Escalade was a rented vehicle from a Hertz Rental Car located at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International (“MSP”) Airport.

Minneapolis Police Officers and other State Troopers arrived shortly thereafter. Officers located a Hertz rental car receipt on the ground right outside the black Cadillac Escalade. The rental car receipt listed the renter as “Derrick Thompson.” The driver was later fully identified as DERRICK JOHN THOMPSON, the Defendant herein. The receipt indicated that the date and time of the rental was June 16, 2023, at 9:46 p.m., approximately 24 minutes before the crash. Officers were able to confirm that there was video surveillance footage from Hertz of Defendant renting the black Cadillac Escalade from Hertz at the MSP Airport.

Officers spoke to witness A. Witness A informed officers that they observed the accident and saw Defendant exit the vehicle and flee the scene on foot. Witness A provided a detailed physical description of Defendant and the clothing Defendant was wearing. Witness A also informed officers that Defendant was limping as he fled the scene. Witness B informed officers that he observed Defendant flee the scene after the accident and informed officers that Defendant was nearby at Taco Bell.

Defendant was subsequently located near the scene of the crash at Taco Bell. Defendant was sitting on the curb in the parking lot of Taco Bell. Defendant also had injuries consistent with being in a car accident. Defendant was bleeding from a laceration on his forehead, had blood on his hands and clothing, and was sweating profusely. Officers inquired with Defendant about how he sustained his injuries. Defendant initially told officers, “I cut myself. This is old. This is an old cut.” Officers informed Defendant that his injuries looked recent. Defendant then told officers that he was injured when he “fell” earlier in the night. Defendant then provided officers with his photo identification.

Defendant was arrested, and officers observed Defendant was walking with a limp. A show-up was conducted with Witness A. Witness A positively identified Defendant as the driver of the black Cadillac Escalade and the individual they observed flee the scene after the crash. Witness A was “one hundred percent” positive in their identification of Defendant.

Defendant was subsequently transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Medical personnel confirmed Defendant had a broken hip.

On June 20, 2023, a known witness came to the police precinct and provided officers with cell phone video of the crash. In the video, Defendant approaches the witness’s car after the crash and asks the witness to give him a ride.

Officers obtained a search warrant to collect blood from the Defendant. Officers executed the search warrant. The results of the blood draw are still pending.

Officers obtained a search warrant to search the black Cadillac Escalade. During the search of the vehicle, officers discovered a Glock 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine with live ammunition in the magazine. Officers also discovered over 250 grams, including over 2,000 individual pills, of suspected narcotics which field-tested positive for fentanyl, thirteen additional pills which field-tested positive for MDMA, and approximately 35.6 grams of white powder which field-tested positive for cocaine. Police also collected swabs for DNA testing from inside the vehicle. Results of the DNA testing are still pending.

Routine checks also revealed Defendant has the following prior convictions:

Felony evading police causing injury or death, felony hit-and-run resulting in serious bodily injury or death, and felony conspiracy (18-CR-08-676) (2020, California);

Fleeing police in a motor vehicle and false information to police (62-CR-17-7622) on May 7, 2018; and

Fifth Degree Drug Possession (62-CR-15-4853) on October 1, 2015.

Defendant’s driving record includes numerous charges and convictions for driving after suspension and driving after revocation. Defendant’s Minnesota driver’s license was revoked in 2018 after he was convicted for fleeing police in a motor vehicle. Defendant’s license was reinstated in March 2023.

Defendant has been discharged from the hospital and is in custody.

To ensure a fair court process, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office will have no further comment while the case is pending unless additional evidence develops that impacts charges.

Police worked with the family in searching for Chris. Bloodhounds were used and tracked Chris to the Times Square pizza across the street. Blood was also found in a garage, but went no where.

The family hired a private investigator, Chuck Loesch. Loesch found witnesses who reported that a gang of at least 10 men had attacked a man in front of Times Square Pizza, in what was thought to be a gang initiation. Although, the time of the incident has not been confirmed–it could have been around the time Chris left the bar.

Chris’ body was found floating on his back in the Mississippi River February 2003. His arms were crossed on his chest and he had hair in his hand. Lynne Dietrict saw Chris floating in the river and called 911. When investigators got there, Chris had floated another 100 feet to the dam. The hair was later said to be Chris’. He was still in his Halloween costume.

Police first reported his death as a suicide. In 2006 Tim Dolan the new police chief reopened Chris’ case! Stating that a mistake was made and they are now reporting that Chris’ death was a homicide.

According to Breaking Homicide Secrets in the River [link below], they believe the hair got in Chris’ hand while he was trying to remove the hand that was pushing his head down.

A former police office met with the Breaking Homicide team and gave them the name, Jeramy Lynn Alford. Retired Chief Dolan confirmed the name and stated that Alford had information on the murder unknown to the public.

Derrick Levasseur the detective and Kris Mohandie the psychologist decided to email Alford in prison, who is in prison for another murder, and he responded. Alford words: I really don’t want to talk about any crime that I haven’t been charged with and/or convicted of.

At the time Chris went missing, he was a student at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management.

Candace Hackett was shot on 2 April 2017 outside Hell’s Lovers Motorcycle Club. She passed away 5 April 2017.

Candice Hackett, died at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale 05 April 2017 of complications resulting from a gunshot wound to the head, according to Minneapolis police and relatives. She was the mother of 25-year-old Chad Robertson, who was fatally shot by an Amtrak police officer during an encounter in downtown Chicago. [An Amtrak police officer who fatally shot a Minnesota man as he fled from a pat-down search outside Union Station in 2017 was found not guilty of murder charges by a Cook County judge.] Chicago Sun

According to police, Hackett was shot during an early-morning confrontation Sunday outside the Hell’s Lovers Motorcycle Club, at 2629 Golden Valley Road — a popular hangout for bikers. She was taken to North Memorial, along with a man whom police say had been stabbed in the abdomen.

A third victim, a male with a gunshot wound, later showed up at the hospital, police said. Both men, ages 35 and 49, are expected to survive.

It was unclear what prompted the attack. Authorities have released few details, only disclosing that the investigation remains active. Sgt. Catherine Michal, a police spokesperson, said four detectives have been assigned to the slaying, the city’s seventh of the year.

Several witnesses contacted on Wednesday said that an argument led to the shooting outside of the club. One woman said she heard a commotion outside, followed by “more gunshots than I could count.” Like others, she declined to be identified out of fear for her safety.

Elisa Gomez was married on 10 October 2016. She married Bradley James Alexander. The next morning Elisa was found hanging 11 October 2016 from the rafter in the couple’s basement bedroom. Even though her husband, roommate, and the roommate’s children were in the home the morning of her death, her death was addressed as a suicide. Elisa was only 47 years old. She was an art teacher and advocated for rescuing animals. Elisa has 2 children.

When Elisa met Alexander, he was homeless and jobless. He had nothing to his name. After the death of Elisa Alexander was given control of the house. He had friends move in the same day. The roommate had items go missing. Alexander claimed it was a break-in.

Also, note that Alexander never showed up to Elisa’s funeral which was 9 days later.

A 911 call was placed to the Minneapolis Police Department shortly before Elisa was found dead in her home. Elisa’s family was told the Police went to the door and when no one answered, they left without any follow-up. Elisa’s autopsy indicates that her death was due to a “ligature hanging” and the Manner of Death is “undetermined”.

From what I have found in the Minnesota courts, Alexander had been charged with strangulation back in 2009. He was found guilty. He was also found guilty of interfering with a 911 call.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Thursday, February 3, 2022

Seven Minneapolis Men Face Federal Charges for Violent Crimes

Charges include carjacking, firearms violations, and drug trafficking occurring in the area of Chicago and Franklin

Charged: Albert Walter Bratton III, Marion Quintel Ware, Namiri Love Laquandas Tanner, Shamar Jamareus Scott, Anthony Shaquan Kemp, Devon Martell Harmon, and Tiray Yvonne Dyson.

MINNEAPOLIS – Acting U.S. Attorney Charles J. Kovats today announced federal charges against seven individuals for violent criminal activity, including carjacking, drug trafficking, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and possession of a machine gun.

According to court documents, in mid-2021, law enforcement had documented a recent increase in gang activity along with numerous violent incidents, including shootings and murders, in and around the intersection of Chicago Avenue and Franklin Avenue in south Minneapolis. On June 10, 2021, officers with the Minneapolis Police Department conducting surveillance in the area observed several individuals engaging in what appeared to be hand-to-hand drug deals. When officers approached the group, Albert Walter Bratton, III, 26, attempted to flee on foot, but officers were able to apprehend him after he stumbled and fell. After Bratton fell, officer recovered a Glock model 43, 9 mm semiautomatic pistol with an extended magazine, which Bratton had removed from his waistband. Officers later recovered from Bratton’s possession two baggies containing a total of approximately 10 grams of crack cocaine, divided into several smaller baggies for distribution. Bratton has been charged via criminal complaint with one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and one count of carrying a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.

According to court documents, on June 15, 2021, Marion Quintel Ware, 19, carjacked a 2007 Ford Focus by using force, violence, and intimidation against the victim. A recently unsealed indictment charges Ware with one count of aiding and abetting carjacking.

According to court documents, on July 21, 2021, Namiri Love Laquandas Tanner, 21, was in possession of a .40-caliber Glock pistol with a high-capacity magazine, equipped with an attached conversion device, commonly known as a “glock switch” or “auto-sear.” These devices are designed to convert a semi-automatic weapon to shoot automatically by a single pull of the trigger and are classified as machine guns under federal law. A recently unsealed indictment charges Tanner with one count of possession of a machine gun.

Four additional defendants have been indicted for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Shamar Jamareus Scott, 21, is charged with one count of possessing a firearm as a felon. Anthony Shaquan Kemp, Jr., 22, is charged with one count of possessing a firearm as a felon. Devon Martell Harmon and Tiray Yvonne Dyson, both 38, are each charged with one count of possessing ammunition as a felon. All four defendants have previous felony convictions and are therefore prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.

The defendants made their initial appearances earlier today in U.S. District Court before Magistrate Judge David T. Schultz.

These cases are being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, the centerpiece of the Department of Justice’s violent crime reduction efforts. PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them. As part of this strategy, PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.

These cases are the result of an investigation led by the Minneapolis Police Department, the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations and the United States Secret Service.

These cases are being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Amber M. Brennan and Harry M. Jacobs.

Department of Justice
U.S. Attorney’s Office
District of Minnesota
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, January 7, 2022

Brooklyn Park Man Sentenced to Prison for Arson in St. Paul’s Midway Area

MINNEAPOLIS – A Brooklyn Park man was sentenced to 27 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release and $33,826.64 in restitution for his role in the arson of the Great Health and Nutrition store in St. Paul. Acting U.S. Attorney Charles J. Kovats made the announcement after U.S. District Judge Nancy E. Brasel sentenced the defendant.

According to court documents, on May 28, 2020, Samuel Elliott Frey, 20, and co-defendant McKenzy Ann DeGidio Dunn, 21, joined other individuals who had gathered near the Great Health and Nutrition store located at 1360 University Avenue West, in St. Paul. Frey and others arrived together to the Midway area near University Avenue and walked through multiple businesses before they arrived inside the Great Health and Nutrition retail store. While inside the store, Frey poured a bottle of hand sanitizer onto a shelving unit located on the floor. Frey then lit paper on fire and placed the flaming paper where he had poured the hand sanitizer. Frey poured on more hand sanitizer to accelerate the fire. The Great Health and Nutrition store sustained fire damage because of Frey’s conduct.

Dunn pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit arson and, on May 10, 2021, was sentenced to three years of probation and $31,578 in restitution. On July 20, 2021, Frey pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit arson.

This case is the result of an investigation conducted jointly by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the St. Paul Police Department, the St. Paul Fire Department, Brooklyn Park Police Department, the Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division, and the FBI.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew Ebert and Joseph Teirab.

Time to look at the Twin Cities murders for 2021.

Minneapolis aka Murderapolis leads the way with 97 murders. That number is tied with their 1995 murders.
BTW, Minneapolis has its first homicide on Saturday 8 January 2022. Of course it’s not the first shooting. A man lying in the street with a gunshot wound on the 4200 block of 11th Avenue South around 9:40 p.m. on reports of shots fired and a crashed car.

St. Paul had 35 murders, the youngest was a 2 years old. Ramsey County 2021 murder victims
ICYMI St. Paul had their first homicide Sunday 9 January 2022. A woman in her 40s was stabbed at about 2:30 p.m. at an apartment building in the 100 block of West Larpenteur Ave, and police later arrested a man.

St. Cloud had 5 murders.

According to homesnacks.net their numbers are wrong. No wonder they’ve been mentioned on abc, nbc, and cbs!

Making their parents proud! I hope these brats are charged as adults! According to the Hennepin County Attorney office, they are ramping up prosecution on carjackings. Read it here!

From the Hennepin County Attorney office:

Three juveniles have been charged in connection to two carjackings in Edina and St. Louis Park, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Monday.

Kanye Hardiman, 16, of Minneapolis, and 17-year-old Vance Chatman from Minneapolis, each face five counts of first-degree aggravated robbery charges for their involvement in separate, but related carjackings in Edina and St. Louis Park on Dec. 9.

Cayden Whitmore, 16, of Minneapolis, has been charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated robbery for his participation in the St. Louis Park incident.

Hardiman and Whitmore made their first appearances Dec. 20 at 1:30 p.m. and they were ordered detained until their next appearances. The State has filed presumptive certifications motions on both juveniles, requesting that these respondents be certified to stand trial as adults.

According to the juvenile petitions, on Dec. 9 around 3:15 p.m., St. Louis Park police went to a grocery store upon learning of a robbery. When they arrived, an adult male victim informed officers that he was in his SUV in the parking lot when Chatman and Hardiman went to the vehicle and attempted to pull him out.

The male victim also stated that Chatman and Hardiman repeatedly punched him, while threatening him with a drill, pretending it was a gun. As a result of the attack, the male victim suffered multiple injuries. A witness also told police that either Hardiman or Chatman struck the male victim with the drill.

A second male victim in the grocery store parking lot walked over when he saw the commotion, asking Hardiman and Chatman to calm down. Hardiman then began to fight with the man, and did so until he and Chatman fled the scene in an awaiting, stolen SUV driven by Whitmore, the petition says.

About an hour and a half later, just before 5:00 p.m., the white SUV next went to an Edina grocery store. There, the SUV pulled into a parking spot next to an adult female victim who was sitting inside her vehicle. Hardiman and Chatman proceeded to enter the female victim’s passenger’s side doors—one in the front and the back, the petition says.

Hardiman and Chatman began to punch the female victim, while also attempting to push her out of the driver’s side door while her seat belt was still buckled.

As this occurred, the female victim was honking the horn, alerting other people in the parking lot. Two individuals tried to pull Chatman from the driver’s seat in an attempt to help the female victim. During the scuffle, one of the men was bitten by Hardiman, the petition states.

During the fighting, Chatman eventually put the female victim’s vehicle in reverse as he tried to flee the scene. In doing so, he struck another male victim in the head with the driver’s side door as he accelerated backwards, and ran over the male victim’s legs, the petition furthers.

The female victim was still entangled by her seat belt and was dragged through the parking lot as her vehicle was being driven by Chatman. She sustained significant cuts and scrapes as a result to her right shoulder, the petition says.

A witness, who has a permit to carry a firearm, intervened and pulled out a gun in an effort to stop the violence. Both Hardiman and Chatman jumped out of the vehicle and ran from the grocery store parking lot, the petition states.

Surveillance footage obtained from both St. Louis Park and Edina, in addition to witness accounts and tips from the public based on photos, helped identify the three juveniles involved. The SUV driven by Whitmore was found a block from Chatman’s home. It was towed and processed for evidence, the petition says.

A search warrant was executed at Hardiman’s home, at which time Hardiman and Whitmore were arrested. Clothing found on site matched what Hardiman was wearing during the St. Louis Park and Edina incidents.
